Hello investors! Welcome to another edition of Money While You Sleep. Its been another okay month for the markets. The portfolio performed really good other than one name which I’ll get to in a bit after I let you know what we have been up to:
- We booked a trip to Mexico for late November
- Started an in home compost bin
- Kids have kept us busy with after school activities.
Got back into buying some new companies and also saw AQN have very disappointing earnings putting the dividend at risk, although I did not sell my position I will not be adding to it either.
Here’s a breakdown of portfolio allocation:
November breakdown 80% Blue Chip, 13.7% Growth and 6.3% Cash
Cash position is slightly higher as a majority of the 6.3% is being held in US cash
We decided to sell Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. as it has been on a huge run, it may continue as the earnings have been stellar but we wanted to lock in some gains this year. We had bought this three times at the lows on the year. This was sold at a massive profit and someone once told me it’s okay to lock in gains.
Added to our EIF position by purchasing 36 shares @ $47.70 in the TFSA
Exchange Income Corporation has held up with over the years thanks to an awesome management team. Recently they came out with an amazing quarter showing that they can perform well in this current market. EIF is trading at a forward PE of 12 which is well below their 5 year average of around 21. They also raised the dividend twice in 2022. Here is a link to their most recent quarter.
Added to our EQB position by purchasing 49 shares @ $55.80 in the TFSA
EQB Inc. has really shocked investors by performing arguably better than its competition and in doing so they have raised the dividend 4 times in 2022 alone. For those that didn’t see Home Capital Group is being purchased and going private, what is telling is the valuation of the deal and how that looks in compared to EQB. For a breakdown on this here is a solid video brought to you by Dan over at Stocktrades.
Added to our position in FTS by purchasing 48 shares @ $52.55
If you’re looking for stability in uncertain times I’m not sure there is a better company than Fortis Inc. With a 49 consecutive dividend streak they have shown that they can manage in any economy we have seen and I don’t see this changing. With a RESP purchase were always looking for consistency as one day our kids will rely on the investment. Currently paying a 4% yield with a 79% payout ratio.
Dividend increases and decreases
2016 – 2022 Dividends
Dividends came in at $371.34. This is a year over year increase of 37%. We also dripped 5 new shares. We had set out our annual goal of $5,000 for 2022, we are very close on achieving this target! Chart below shows YTD dividends. Currently 94% to $5,000 with 1 months to go.
|PLZ.UN||$11.11||Yes, 2 shares|
|POW.TO||$129.20||Yes, 3 shares|
I’m not sure we will be buying anything for the remainder of the year, if we do it would be a small purchase. With 2023 around the corner we will increase our cash position in the TFSA accounts. In the mean time we will update our watch list
